I have tried, time and again, to watch YouTube responsibly. I've turned off recommendations, I've turned off auto-playing of the next episode, I've carefully curated my subscriptions. None of it works for me. I inevitably end up shoveling YT content into my face like ice cream, and I cannot find the discipline within myself to modify this behavior.

Those YT creators who offer me healthy content are offering me carrots and celery deep inside of an ice cream factory. I will happily take their carrots and celery in the moment, but I know my brain will not be satisfied with it, and the ice cream will get me every time. It's an unfortunate weakness, but it's one I have come to understand over time. It's a chronic condition that, for me, can only be managed through abstention.
